01. Steppe (Puszta), Grassland, Marsh atmosphere 2'48"

Distant calls from Mallard, Wigeon, Teal and Shoveler, occasional calls from Lapwing, distant sound of sheep bells and sheperds, wind across plain and in reeds. Sound from a shallow lake in grassland - can be heard for miles. USE: C & E Europe. TIME: Sept-mid November.

As track 1, with sheep bells and sheep becoming closer.

03. Steppe (Puszta), Grassland, edge of Marsh atmosphere 2'17"

Meadow Pipit ( Anthus pratensis ) CU-MD calls from up to 20 pipits, distant Mallard, calls from Skylark and Reed Bunting, wind across plain and in reeds. USE & TIME: W. Europe, late August-early March; C & E Europe, late August- early November.

04. Crane ( Grus grus ) 4'34"

Distant calls from Cranes arriving at roost, becoming excited as more groups arrive, louder calls from birds flying over to join roost, high pitched calls from juveniles, large flock flies over, then small groups, faint Mallard and sheep bells in b/g. USE & TIME: At evening Crane roosts throughout range.

05. Crane ( Grus grus ) 3'51"

Calls from birds in and joining roost, high pitched calls from juveniles, small flock flies over, at end, calling loudly, distant Mallard and Meadow Pipits. USE & TIME: As track 4.

06. Crane ( Grus grus ) 1'51"

Calls from birds in and joining roost, dog in distance at start, then flock flies in calling, followed by a small flock of geese, distant Mallard. USE & TIME: As track 4.

07. Crane ( Grus grus ) 2'42"

Calls from birds in and joining roost, Mallard and Wigeon in distance at times, a small group flies in calling, greeting calls from birds on the ground. USE & TIME: At evening European Crane roosts, or, for flocks feeding in fields during the day.

Calls from two small groups flying over, high pitched calls from juveniles. USE: Within European and Russian range. TIME: Day or evening.

Calls from Cranes in and joining roost, Mallard in distance, calls from singles and groups flying in, greeting calls from flock, high pitched calls from juveniles. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Calls from a roosting flock of 8000+ birds, Mallard in distance at start, sound builds in intensity. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a roosting flock of 8000+ birds. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a roosting flock of 8000+ birds. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a roosting flock of 8000+ birds, then the majority of the flock take off and move to another location. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a flock of 8000+ birds after moving roosting locations, very distant Mallard at times. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a flock of 8000+ birds after moving roosting location, faint Mallard at times. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Excited calls from a flock of 8000+ birds, flock takes off and flies further away, faint calls from Snipe. USE & TIME: As track 4.

Calls from a group circling before joining main roost in the distance. USE & TIME: As track 4.

18. Farmland atmosphere 3'14"

Wind in scrub and maize, distant calls from Cranes, calls from Meadow Pipits, strong, whistling wind at times. USE: E. Hungary. TIME: Mid Sept-mid Nov.

19. Crane ( Grus grus ) 5'28"

Calls from birds gathering in maize fields - pre-roost, before flying to roost, small groups arriving and leaving, occasional calls from Tree Sparrows and Meadow Pipits, farm machinery in distance, slight wind in maize and scrub at edge of field, gusting at times. USE & TIME: As track 18.

20. Crane ( Grus grus ) 1'05"

Calls from two large flocks flying over to roosting area, calls from single birds as well as flocks. USE & TIME:As track 8.
