MD calls from Sheep, MCU calls from female Red-footed Falcon at nest, male calls occasionally in distance, Corn Bunting singing, call from Jackdaw, insects, with distant voices and tractor at times. USE: Hungary east to Central Asia. TIME: Mid April - July.

CU calls from male by nest, insects in b/g, Corn Bunting at start, another falcon in distance. USE & TIME: As track 2, without bunting as track 4.

CU calls from a female, then calls from four birds competing for nest site, insects in b/g, occasional distant Rook USE: Hungary east to Western Siberia. TIME: Mid April - July.

Flies, bees, beetles, occasional grasshopper, distant larks and Red-footed Falcons, faint thunder. USE: As track 4 with falcons, S. & SE. Europe without. TIME: As track 4 with falcons, to September without. Typical of late morning - evening.

CU calls from a pair at nest site, another in distance, hum from flies and other insects. USE: Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Ukraine and east through the whole of southern Russia. TIME: Mid-late April - July.

Dawn; Starlings calling and mimicing Curlew, House Sparrows, Collared Doves, Feral Pigeons, chickens in distance, occasional vehicle, Goldfinches, dog, Great Tit, distant woodpecker 'druming' and Golden Oriole, becomes less busy. USE & TIME: As track 11.

Bees buzzing around flowering tree, Great Tits, Golden Oriole, Blue Tits, distant Rooks and doves, Goldfinches and Chaffinch. USE: Eastern Europe. TIME: April - August.

20. Golden Oriole ( Oriolus oriolus ) 0'13"

CU song, two phrases, Rooks and doves in b/g. USE: Central and northern France to southern Denmark, eastern Europe to south-central Siberia. TIME: late April - July.

21. Blue Tit ( Parus caeruleus ) Collared Dove ( Streptopelia decaocto ) 1'55"

Deciduous woodland atmosphere CU song from Blue Tit, MCU 'coos' from Collared Dove, bees buzzing around flowering tree, Rooks, distant Golden Oriole, Pheasant, Shelduck calls in fight passing over woodland, Willow Warbler, faint dog at end. USE: As track 12. As spots: Blue Tit - Europe, Collared Dove - W. Central & E. Europe. TIME: May - July, Mid-morning to late afternoon.

22. Thrush Nightingale ( Luscinia luscinia ) 3'33"

CU song, bird in bushes in woodland by edge of village; Blue Tits, Pheasant, Willow Warbler, Golden Oriole, Semi-collared Flycatcher, Collared Doves, chickens and dogs in b/g. USE: S. Ukraine, parts of Central Asia, without flycatcher - E. Europe. TIME: May-July.

23. Deciduous woodland atmosphere 5'09"

Great Tit ( Parus major ) CU song from Great Tit, bees buzzing around flowering tree, other Great Tits, Collared Doves and Rooks at times. USE: Eastern Europe. TIME: April-Aug.

24. Marsh, Pool, Lakeside atmosphere 1'17"

Yellow Wagtail ( Black-headed race: Motacilla flava feldegg ) CU calls from wagtails, Green Toads in b/g, distant Quail and Ortolan Bunting, Marsh (or Lake) Frogs calls become louder at end. USE: Southern and eastern Yugoslavia, Bulgaria; southern Ukraine, Greece and Turkey east to Afghanistan. TIME: late April - August.

25. Marsh, Pool, Lakeside atmosphere 1'01"

Marsh (or Lake) Frog ( Rana ridibunda ) CU croaks from frogs, more distant ones later, Green Toads, Black-headed Wagtails and Quail in b/g. USE & TIME: As track 24.

26. Marsh, Pool, Lakeside atmosphere 1'50"

Yellow Wagtail ( Black-headed race: Motacilla flava feldegg ) Marsh (or Lake) Frog ( Rana ridibunda ) CU calls from wagtails, calls from Tree Sparrows and Quail in b/g, Marsh Frogs call in b/g at first, then CU, several calls from distant Jackdaws. USE & TIME: As track 24.
