Town or village atmosphere MD-CU calls from a large flock of Swifts, split up into screaming parties, voices and traffic in b/g, House Sparrows and Blackcap in distance. USE: S.Europe. TIME: Late June-August.

Leaf-rustle from a small woodland of Poplar Trees, faint bird calls, cricket stridulating. USE: late morning - late afternoon, Southern part of Europe. TIME: Spring/Summer.

High pasture, Mountain atmosphere Sheep calling on mountain-side, sheep-bells, calls from Black Redstarts, Crag and House Martins alarm calls at Kestrel, Alpine Chough, distant river. USE: Mts. of S. Europe. TIME: April-Sept.

MCU-CU calls from several in fight, distant Alpine Chough and sheep. USE: Mts. of S. Europe. TIME: Spring/Summer, without sheep then all year.

11. Chough ( Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax ) 1'04"

MD calls in flight from four birds returning to nest holes, chicks call in b/g at end, House Martins in b/g. USE: Spain, W. Alps, Italy, Greece, W. Ireland, W. Wales and a few W. Scottish Islands. TIME: June - July.

12. Mountain atmosphere 2'51"

Calls from Alpine Chough, Crag and House Martins, Serins, Rock Buntings, Black Redstarts call and feed chicks, buzzing from bees and flies, distant river. USE: Mts. of N. Spain and S. Europe. TIME: Late May-July.

13. Black Redstart ( Phoenicurus ochruros ) 2'31"

MCU calls from chicks begging and being fed, Alpine Chough call at start, calls from Linnets, Crag and House Martins in distance, dispute between two females at end trilling calls (one female tries to approach the others nest and is chased off). Other birds in distance, tractor and Kestrel alarm in distance at end. USE: As track 12, without Alpine Chough then S. European Mts.. TIME: June - August.

14. Black Redstart ( Phoenicurus ochruros ) 1'55"

CU calls from both adults, high-pitched alarm and male giving part-song-like calls, chicks being fed towards end, Crag and House Martins in b/g. USE: As track 13. TIME: As 13, without chicks then May-Aug.

15. Chough ( Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax ) 0'30"

Distant calls from a small flock, insects in foreground. USE: As track 11. TIME: Spring/Summer.

16. Blackbird ( Turdus merula ) 0'16"

CU wing-beats and soft alarm. USE: Europe, except Iceland and far north, to C. Asia. TIME: Any.

17. Raven ( Corvus corax ) 1'40"

Distant calls, Linnet calls and wing-beats, cow-bells at start, distant Blackbird and Stonechat, slight wind in bushes. USE: C., S. & E. Europe, without cow-bells then W. UK and Ireland. TIME: Spring/Summer.

18. Raven ( Corvus corax ) 1'40"

CU calls at start, wing-beats then MD-Distant calls in flight, Linnets and Blackbird in distance. USE: Europe, as spots in Iceland and north. TIME: As track 17, as spots all year.

19. Griffon Vulture ( Gyps fulvus ) 2'38"

CU wing-beats and landing, feeding on carcass, Ravens, Blackcap, Stonechat, Linnets and occasional distant Chough in b/g. USE: Spain and Mts. of SE Europe. TIME: Spring/Summer. As spots: Throughout range - anytime.

20. Griffon Vulture ( Gyps fulvus ) 2'48"

CU aggressive call from one bird and feeding on carcass, distant Ravens, Blackcap, Linnets and flies around carcass, occasional distant Chough and cow-bells, another vulture flies in at end. USE & TIME: As track 19.

21. Raven ( Corvus corax ) Griffon Vulture ( Gyps fulvus ) 5'18"

CU calls from Ravens and feeding sounds from vultures on carcass, vulture sneezes CU, Chough, Dunnock, faint cow-bells and Blackcap in b/g. USE & TIME: As track 19.

MCU calls from Ravens, hisses from vultures feeding on carcass with hollow sounds from vultures walking on cow carcass, wing-beats and CU calls from vultures near end. Chough, Dunnock, distant cow-bells and Alpine Chough in b/g. USE: Mts. of N. Spain and SE Europe. TIME: As track 19.

Distant calls at start, then CU calls, alarm call and wing-beats, Chough, Alpine Chough. Blackcap and faint cow-bells in b/g. USE: Mts. of N. Spain, Alps, SE Europe. As spots: Europe. TIME: Spring/Summer, as spots: Anytime.

CU calls, hisses, bill-snapping, sneezes and feeding sounds from several on carcass, cow-bells, cattle, flies, Alpine Chough, Goldfinches, Meadow Pipit and Blackbird in b/g. USE & TIME: As track 22.

CU calls, hisses, sneezes and feeding sounds from birds on carcass, Goldfinches, Chough and cow-bells in b/g. Hollow sounds from vultures walking on cow carcass. USE & TIME: As track 19.
